Frequently Asked

Telecom Advisory Questions, Answered

Straight answers about how ITG Group works with businesses on telecom audits, carrier contracts, and ongoing carrier management. No spin — just how we actually operate.

Do I actually pay ITG Group anything?

No. ITG Group is compensated directly by the carriers and technology providers we place business with, at a flat industry rate that doesn't change based on which provider you choose. Our audits, recommendations, contract negotiations, and ongoing carrier management are delivered at zero cost to you. The only thing you pay is your normal carrier bill — which, after we're done, is typically about 20% lower than when we started.

What's the difference between a telecom agent and a telecom broker?

A telecom agent usually represents one or two carriers and earns commission on the services they sell you. A telecom broker — sometimes called a technology advisor or Trusted Advisor — represents you, and works across hundreds of providers (ITG partners with 300+). Because carriers pay brokers the same flat rate regardless of which one you choose, the broker has every reason to recommend the right fit and no reason to steer you toward the wrong one. ITG has been doing this since 2001.

How long does a telecom audit take?

A first-pass audit of a typical mid-market invoice stack takes about two weeks from the day we receive your bills. Larger multi-site businesses with 20+ locations usually run 3–5 weeks. You don't need to do anything during that time beyond forwarding us recent invoices and a letter of agency so we can talk to carriers on your behalf. At the end you get a clear, line-by-line report showing every billing error, overage, unused service, and pricing gap we found — plus a savings number.

What services does ITG Group cover?

ITG Group provides independent telecom & IT advisory across the full stack: carrier contract audits and negotiation, UCaaS (unified communications), CCaaS (contact center), SD-WAN and SASE design, dedicated internet and connectivity, cloud infrastructure and colocation, managed network services, and ongoing carrier lifecycle management. If it touches a carrier invoice, we work on it.

Does ITG Group work outside of Portland, Oregon?

Yes. ITG is headquartered in Portland, Oregon and serves clients across the Pacific Northwest and nationwide. We have active clients in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, and the Midwest. Carrier advisory is fundamentally a relationship business with the carriers, not a location business — so we can work anywhere in the United States.

How much can I realistically save on my telecom bill?

Most businesses we audit save between 15% and 30% of their monthly telecom spend, with an average of about 20%. Where those savings come from varies: billing errors and credits (almost every audit finds these), retired services nobody turned off, contracts that have rolled to month-to-month rates, over-provisioned circuits, and carrier pricing that's simply below-market now. The only way to know your number is to run the audit.

Will I have to switch carriers if I work with ITG?

Not necessarily. A surprising amount of savings comes from staying put — just with a renegotiated contract or corrected billing. We always evaluate your incumbent first because switching has real costs: installation, downtime, user training. If a switch makes sense after all that, we'll show you the math. If it doesn't, we'll tell you you're in good shape and leave it alone.

How long has ITG Group been in business?

ITG Group was founded in 2001 in Portland, Oregon by John and Lauretta, who'd both been in Pacific Northwest telecom since the Pacific Northwest Bell / US West era. The company has been family-owned and operated for more than two decades and some of our very first clients are still with us today.

What kinds of companies does ITG typically work with?

We work with businesses across healthcare, retail, finance, manufacturing, education, legal, and professional services. Our sweet spot is multi-site mid-market organizations (10–500+ locations) where telecom complexity has grown faster than anyone can keep track of, but we also work with single-location businesses that just want someone independent to look at their bills.
